Dr. Donte T. Boyd is an Assistant Professor at The Ohio State University College of Social Work. He also serves as a Visiting Professor at the University of California, San Francisco at the Center for AIDs Prevention Studies (CAPS). He earned his Ph.D. in Social Welfare from UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs in 2019. Dr. Boyd's research focuses on exploring how developmental assets and other strength-based approaches impact HIV and suicidal prevention among young Black sexual gender minority males. Specifically, he aims to understand the role of external assets such as parent support, other adult support, and community, as well as internal assets like self-worth and racial identity, in serving as protective mechanisms for Black MSM against HIV acquisition and other health-related outcomes. Dr. Boyd's work is guided by the developmental asset’s framework, which suggests that assets can function as a protective factor for HIV and suicide risk.
