Hedieh Haghighatgou Briggs, LMSW, is the Director/Chief Administrative Officer for the Department of Psychiatry at the Texas A&M University Health Science Center. Briggs is a driven clinician, advocate, and leader with a passion for mental and community health as well as social justice. She possesses decades of leadership, and a broad set of unique skills.
Prior to joining the Texas A&M Health Science Center, over the last 3 decades she has held multiple positions as clinician, educator, administrator, and researcher at Community Mental Health, the University of Michigan Department of Psychiatry, the VA Ann Arbor Health System, and the University of Michigan School of Social Work. She has served as a supervisor for many Masters level social workers and has been a driving force for development of curriculum for teaching therapy skills, research, and training the next generation of interns and post-graduate level social work trainees.
Briggs served as a Diversity Equity and Inclusion Committee Member in the University of Michigan’s Psychiatry Department, leading efforts to increase access and diversity in research pools. She also served as the Publicity Chair for the National Anxiety Disorders Screening Day in 2000. Briggs also held various community and civic leadership positions while in Michigan.
Briggs holds professional memberships in the National Association of Social Workers and the Anxiety Disorders Association of America. Briggs received her master’s in social work from the University of Michigan in 1994 and her BA in psychology in 1991, also from the University of Michigan.
